Project description
The project KIWi-MOOC, funded by the BMBF, is a sub-project in the project network "WÖRLD" between the Institute of business education and management training and Junior Professor Josef Guggemos (PH Schwäbisch Gmünd). "WÖRLD" is headed by Professor Klusmeyer (Kassel University) and is part of the competence network lernen:digital. It consists of 14 sub-projects (sp) from the fields of economics and business education. The central objective of KIWi-MOOC is the development and evaluation of massive open online courses to promote AI-related competencies among (prospective) business teachers. The project runs from 1 June 2023 to 31 December 2025.
AI has two important implications for teachers: On the one hand, teachers can use AI to improve learning processes; on the other hand, they have the task of preparing learners for a living and working environment that is increasingly shaped by AI. Findings show that economic teachers lack the relevant competencies.
The KIWi-MOOC project therefore addresses:
- the promotion of competencies in the field of AI among teachers at all levels of teacher training and
- the measurement of competence levels and improvements.
The following graphic shows the milestones for achieving the project objectives.
The teaching material developed by the applicant Junior Professor Josef Guggemos at the St. Gallen University forms the basis for the design-based research approach. Scales developed by the applicant Professor Roland Happ are adapted and used for the formative assessment of AI competencies. The MOOC is used in all stages of teacher training:
- In the 1st stage of teacher training, the MOOC is integrated into university teaching. The prospective economic teachers learn largely self-directed and are supported as needed.
- In the 2nd stage, the MOOC will be integrated into the curriculum of the seminars and individual learning and joint reflection phases will be facilitated.
- In the 3rd stage, teachers use the MOOC completely self-directed.
The KIWi-MOOC project is supported by the following partners:
- Prof. Dr Karl-Heinz Gerholz, Chair of Economics and Business Education, University of Bamberg
- Zentrum für Lehrer:innenbildung und Schulforschung, Leipzig University
