The December issue 31/4 of Electronic Markets (EM) is now online and comprises a special theme on digital healthcare services.

The editorial on “Electronic Markets on platform complexity” by Rainer Alt describes the situation of digital platforms in the healthcare sector and addresses the problem of complexity when multiple digital platforms interact. All seven papers of the special issue section are introduced in the preface of the guest editors Edith Maier, Ulrich Reimer and Nilmini Wickramasinghe. We also had the honor to interview Werner Dorfmeister, Vice President Sales and Marketing at B. Braun in Melsungen and discuss with him the developments of medical instruments and services.

The general research papers complement the special issue with articles on health information systems, cloud computing ecosystem, consumer trust and repurchasing, customer engagement via social media, and on the market for personal data. All articles are available via SpringerLink, eight of them via the open access option.
