The December 2022 issue of Electronic Markets (EM) is now online and constitutes another comprehensive issue with a total of 37 articles. 17 of them belong to four special issue sections. These are “Standardization for platform ecosystems”, “Smart cities - smart governance models for future cities”, “Trust in artificial intelligence” and “Explainable and responsible artificial intelligence (XAI)”.

In addition to the special issue prefaces, the editorial on “Electronic Markets on AI and standardization” authored by Rainer Alt discusses the relationship between standardization and AI to illustrate the links between the various special issues. The editorial also introduces the 16 articles in the general research section.

Besides the editorial, the prefaces and the research papers, the 32/4 issue comprises two articles in Electronic Markets’ Fundamentals section. The first is on “Artificial intelligence and machine learning” and the second on “Quantum Computing”. The latter is complemented with an interview with Heike Riel, who is one of the leading researchers in the field of quantum computing.
