Ziel der Vorlesung

This course aims to provide an understanding of the economic and political foundations of the European integration process. In the first part of the course, we will outline the rationale of European integration and apply basic economic concepts to analyze the effects of EU trade policy, regional policy, factor market integration and agricultural policy. In the second part, we will discuss the making of the European monetary union, implications and shortcomings of the monetary union as well as its enlargement process.

Anforderungen

This course is part of the module International Economic Policy, which also comprises a course in Economic Policy as well as a seminar. Students can chose between participation in the seminar "Current Challenges in International Economic Policy Making" or "Growth in the Japanese Economy". Two-thirds of the module grade will be based on a written exam covering the two courses. For the seminar you will write a short term paper accounting for the remaining one-third of your module grade.
