According to Section 2 Para. 2 of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG), the faculty is the "basic organisational unit of the university". It is the next administrative level below the university level.
Commissions are appointed by the Faculty Council to prepare decisions. The meeting shall be chaired by the Dean or a member of the Commission designated by the Dean. The commissions are usually composed in the same proportion as the Faculty Council. An important exception is the Study Commission.
Faculty Council
In addition to the Dean and the Dean's Office, the Faculty Council is an organ of the Faculty and is composed of elected representatives of all status groups (university lecturers, academic staff, other staff, students) as well as the Equal Opportunities Officer.
Responsibility
The Faculty Council is responsible for all matters of fundamental importance to the Faculty, in particular for
- the adoption of the study and examination regulations,
- the adoption of the promotion and habilitation regulations,
- proposals for the establishment, discontinuation and amendment of study programmes,
- the coordination of research projects,
- proposals for the Faculty's target agreements with the Rector’s Office
- statement of the faculty on target agreements of the university with the State Ministry for Science and the Arts,
- securing its study offer and planning the range of courses on offer in accordance with the Faculty's development plan,
- evaluation procedure according to Section 9,
- proposals for the preparation of structural and development plans for the Faculty,
- cooperation in the drafting of the business plan of the university,
- statement on the use of the positions and funds allocated to the Faculty,
- the implementation of the student advisory service,
- the filling of the appointment committees and proposals for the functional description of university lecturing positions.
The basis is Section 93 Abs. 1 of the Saxon Higher Education Act as amended on 31 May 2023.
The inaugural meeting of the newly elected Faculty Council of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science will take place on 22 October 2025.
The nine university professors, three academic staff member, one other staff member, as well as three student representatives and one equal opportunities representative will serve as the Faculty Council for the next three years.
Prof. Dr. Rainer Alt was elected as Dean on January 24, 2024 for the term of office from April 1, 2024.
