Talk by Thomas Bruckner (Leipzig University) on "Integrated Modelling of Deep and Rapid Emission Reductions" as part of the ECO-N Lecture Series

The talk presents the main research topics that are investigated at the research group for “Energy Management and Sustainability” which is part of the Institute for Infrastructure and Resources Management at the Faculty for Economics and Management Sciences, Leipzig University. The research fields include: (1) techno-socio-economic optimization of municipal, national, and global energy systems, (2) analysis of liberalized energy markets under climate protection constraints, and (3) the optimal integration of innovative climate protection technologies into future energy supply systems. The research is carried out in a highly interdisciplinary manner which simultaneously takes into account economic, environmental and social aspects. A central aspect of our current model-based research is the consideration of the challenges that are associated with the deep and rapid reductions of greenhouse gas emissions that are needed to stay below 1.5°C global mean temperature change.
