Portland, Oregon, USA - Sebastian Heidel, research assistant at the Institute of Business and Economics Education at the Leipzig University, participated in the Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE), which took place from 31 May to 2 June 2023 in Portland, Oregon, USA. There he presented his research findings on the topic "Riba and Gharar as challenges on the understanding of western economic concepts for young adults with Muslim background in Germany? Findings from a German interview study" in front of an international scientific audience.
Mr Heidel's research highlights the challenges faced by young adults with Muslim background in Germany when it comes to understanding western financial and economic concepts. In particular, he investigated the impact of riba (interest) and gharar (uncertainty) on understanding and dealing with these principles.
The research findings are based on an interview study conducted in Germany. Mr Heidel conducted interviews with young adults from a Muslim background to capture their perspectives and challenges in relation to the economic concepts that are common in the Western context.
