Abstract

Since May 2023, I have been a postdoctoral researcher, conducting independent interdisciplinary research for the planned Excellence Cluster "Breathing Nature" on climate-biodiversity-society interactions. As an Environmental Economist, I specialize in natural resource management, environmental justice, sustainable development, and ecosystem-based adaptation in urban and non-urban contexts.

Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience in various research and consultancy roles, focusing on data analysis, integrated modeling, causal evaluation of environmental and development policy, spatial data handling, and machine learning.

Professional career

  • since 05/2023
Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leipzig as part of an interdisciplinary team supporting the planned Excellence Cluster "Breathing Nature". This Excellence Cluster focuses on the interactions between climate, biodiversity, and society.
  • 04/2022 - 12/2022
Consultant for the project Sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean at CAF Development Bank of Latin America
  • 05/2018 - 07/2022
Researcher and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Environmental Economics, University of Hamburg in cooperation with the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling.
  • 04/2017 - 02/2018
Master thesis project at CO-Firm (now PWC), Hamburg. The main objective of the thesis was to evaluate the financial risks andopportunities for the cement industry arising from climate change relatedcarbon and energy regulation. The research was carried out by applying amultinational energy system, bottom-up modeling approach and scenarioanalysis for the time period 2015-2050. Funded by European Union's horizon2020 research and innovation programme.
  • 03/2017 - 05/2017
Research assistant at GEOMAR – Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. Laboratory analyses for the project ‘Environmental shifts’, assessing climatechange related ecosystem change and effects of different temperature regimeson herring populations.
  • 10/2016 - 02/2017
Study project at Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics,Hamburg. Assessment of land cover dynamics in the Philippines using Machine Learningfor the LaForeT project. LaForeT explores the impact of policy instruments ondeforestation and reforestation in the Tropics. Funded by the Thünen Instituteand the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in collaborationwith partners in Ecuador, the Philippines and Zambia.
  • 07/2014 - 04/2015
Project based consultant at Grontmij A/S (now Sweco), wind energydepartment, Glostrup, Denmark
  • 02/2013 - 08/2013

Education

  • 04/2018 - 04/2023
Ph.D. in Environmental Economics, Universität Hamburg (summa cum laude).
  • 10/2015 - 01/2018

  • 10/2010 - 09/2014
    B. Sc. - International Business, European – University Viadrina, Frankfurt Oder

I am particularly interested in research topics related to the interactions between humans, ecosystems, and climate, and I primarily work empirically with spatial data.

For example, at the University of Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, I conducted research on income and environmental inequality in urban areas, evaluated the effectiveness of exclusive non-transferable land-use rights in protecting mangrove forests, and analyzed the influence of a polycentric governance structure and the effects of financial North-South transfers. Additionally, I investigated the capitalization of biodiversity in the real estate market and researched sustainable adaptation scenarios for Hamburg within the "Water from Four Sides" project in the Excellence Cluster "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS)".

Currently, at the University of Leipzig, I am investigating the interactions and potential feedback mechanisms between forest ecosystem services, extreme weather events, and urbanization.
