Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Holländer headed and shaped the professorship for Environmental Engineering in Water Management and Environmental Management in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises from 2001 to 2019. On this page, you will find an overview of his main areas of teaching and research.

Professor Holländer's appointment to the professorship at the University of Leipzig was preceded by eleven years of work at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment in the areas of plant safety and environmental management, water protection and international water management. Prior to that, he spent five years as an authority expert for the police and public prosecutor's office in Berlin on operational and legal issues concerning emission, soil, and water protection. Building on this experience, Prof. Holländer has advocated a broad interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching, bringing technological, ecological, economic, and societal-institutional aspects together.

Since his retirement in April 2019, he has taken over teaching and lecturing on selected topics.

His research interests focus on the following topics

  • Evaluation and development of infrastructure,
  • Economic aspects of the circular economy,
  • Sustainable water management,
  • Application of systems theory approaches.
