Palmania JSC, a startup from Vietnam that received the International Innovators Award in 2022 from the SEPT Competence Center, recently explored the German market alongside the International Startup Campus team. This young company specializes in producing and selling natural sweeteners derived from the fruits of wild Palmyra palms in Vietnam.

Their mission is to revive an almost forgotten traditional craft of the indigenous Khmer people, creating job opportunities for locals and allowing young individuals to stay in their homeland. Importantly, this approach ensures that wild Palmyra trees are not cut down for other purposes. Following their visit to Anuga, one of the world's largest food trade fairs, Palmania sought cooperation partners in Saxony and Thuringia while exploring the local startup ecosystem within the food and sustainable organic farming sector.

On last Wednesday, Palmania's founder, Hoai Tran, visited Erfurt and Jena. Anna Meincke, the founder of Dachgemüse, presented her cultivation areas and business model. Dachgemüse seamlessly integrates into the creative and event concept of the Kontor young business space in Erfurt, making a valuable contribution to greening and revitalizing a commercial area. Discussions also included other sustainably-oriented, innovative business and sales concepts from impact-oriented startups and companies with a presence in Kontor Erfurt, such as E-TERRY and Marktschwärmerei.

Palmania dedicated two days to exploring business opportunities in Leipzig, focusing on the local market for Bio products. The ISC team connected Palmania with the local startup Hülsenreich, known for producing healthy snacks in a sustainable manner. Both sets of founders exchanged ideas on market opportunities for Palmania, that received direct feedback on its products too. The Vietnamese company visited Invest Region Leipzig, gaining insights into the business opportunities offered by the City of Leipzig to new companies. An important part of the agenda was visiting local stores that offer bio products, reviewing their product portfolios, discussing market potential for Palmania nectar with store managers and establishing new business contacts.

We extend our gratitude to Palmania and Ms. Hoai Tran for their excellent preparation, high motivation, and engagement in planning and executing their market exploration trip to Germany.
