Yesterday, we kicked off the SEPT IDEAS Research Colloquium year 2024 with our first session – our overall 36th event of this series!

Gerald Gumera Aguilar from the Philippines presented his MA thesis on “Philippine Ethnoscience for Regenerative Agriculture: A Case Study on the Local Farmers of Misamis Occidental”. His study delved into the traditional knowledge and practices of farmers in response to climate change. Gerald highlighted the tangible effects of climate change on agriculture in the Philippines, emphasizing temperature increases and erratic rainfall patterns. He discussed the consequential impact on biodiversity and food security in the region offering a comprehensive view of the challenges faced by the local farming community.

After that, Michael Liersch joined us for a workshop on "How to create Presentation Slides". Together, we laughed at the mock presentation about kangaroos that he had brought to illustrate his points. Michael reminded us of the importance of slide consistence in color, font, font size and bullet points. He also elaborated on the need to know your audience: What are the expectations and objectives? Which facts does the audience need to follow your narrative?

More than 25 participants attended and engaged with Michael on how to spice up their presentation design skills. We are looking forward to continuing this conversation on our SEPT community app!
