We announce the commencement of the AGEA Start-up Class 2023, a dynamic training program designed to empower researchers, PhDs, university lecturers, professors, research staff, and entrepreneurs to unlock the commercial potential of their innovative ideas. The primary objective of this program is to foster the development of competitive products and services that cater to market demands.

This year, six start-up teams from African universities have embarked on this transformative journey. The participating teams are from universities, including the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), Jimma University (Ethiopia), KNUST and the University for Development Studies (Ghana), the University of Maiduguri (Nigeria), and Makerere University (Uganda). These teams, consisting of students and lecturers, have been selected from the winners and promising AGEA Business Idea Competition 2022 teams.

Spanning ten (10) weeks, the AGEA Start-up Class 2023 commenced on May 3 and will conclude on August 9, 2023. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering vital business development aspects, led by experienced experts in start-up development from Leipzig University (SEPT and SMILE). Through engaging training sessions, including presentations, workshops, discussions, pitching sessions, and personalised coaching, participants will delve into key areas such as idea refinement, business model creation, and enterprise resource planning.

By the end of the program, these start-up teams are expected to refine and advance their business models and plans, positioning themselves strategically to attract the necessary resources for successful market entry. The AGEA Start-up Class 2023 bridges the gap between groundbreaking research outcomes and tangible entrepreneurial endeavours.

We congratulate the participating teams and express our gratitude to the students, lecturers, and development partners who continue to support and foster innovation within African higher education institutions. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for African entrepreneurship.
