Governments around the world are currently looking for new approaches to appropriately assess the benefits and the value of scarce ecosystems. This is intended to assist in making the consequences of the destruction or the benefits of the conservation of nature more visible in political decision-making processes. The award-winning paper published in “Science” in 2024 and co-authored by Jun. Prof. Dr. Martin Hänsel, proposes a new calculation approach to capture the future benefits of nature.
The Frontiers Planet Prize is awarded by an independent expert jury chaired by Professor Dr. Johan Rockström, the developer of the Planetary Boundaries framework. The 100 experts award 19 national science teams as “National Champions“, recognizing publications that offer scalable solutions to keep humanity safely within planetary boundaries. The prize aims to accelerate global scientific consensus on innovative ideas with the greatest potential to drive change.
