The chair assigns and supervises all kinds of master's and bachelor's thesis. Furthermore, there is the opportunity of writing a project- or research-orientated thesis at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ.
Guidelines on writing scientific papers and their evaluation (in German)
In general, research topics are assigned within the fields of public economics, environmental economics and energy economics as well as economic and fiscal policy. The following topics are only suggestions for research topics for master's and bachelor's theses. Independent research topics within one of the afore-mentioned fields are particularly welcome.
If interested, two steps are required before the official thesis procedure begins:
- Interested students send an email to Prof. Gawel including their name, name of the degree programme, examination/ student number, the topic of interest with research questions that are as precise as possible. This also applies to the proposed topics below. Via e-mail it will be discussed if the supervision of the master's or bachelor's thesis is possible, by whom and how the thesis is entitled.
- An outline is to be prepared by the candidate and to be sent to Prof. Gawel. In a personal talk the final outline will be assessed. At the same time the thesis has to be registered at the examination office. By the definition of the outline the official working time starts.
If an unreasonable amount of time elapses before the final outline is agreed upon, or if registration at the examination office is not arranged in parallel, the topic will be forfeited. This is to ensure fair conditions for all candidates.
In general two copies of a thesis must be submitted.
