Course Description

This seminar discusses causes and consequences of prolonged periods of low interest rates in Japan, the EMU and the US. Specifically, topics include monetary policy and the business cycle, the performance of monetary institutions during major crises, the question of asset price targeting in a low interest rate environment, Japan's experience with low interest rates as well as the relationship of public debt and interest rates.
