Prof. Dr. Renato Fileto

Abstract:
The seventh Information Systems Lecture presents research from Prof. Dr. Renato Fileto about the retrieval and annotation of Social Media data. Renato Fileto is a professor at the Santa Catarina Federal University (UFSC) in Florianópolis, Brazil. He wrote his PhD thesis in the research field of the semantic web, more exactly about the integration of data and services in the semantic web.

Short Biography:
Renato Fileto holds a DSc degree in Computer Science from Campinas State University, Brazil (2003). He completed an internship at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (2002), and had a post-doc employment at the University of São Paulo, Brazil (2012). His career has intertwined activities in academia and industry. He has been a researcher at the Brazilian Technological Center for Informatics and at the National Research Center for Computers in Agriculture (part of Embrapa, the Brazilian Research Agency for Agriculture). Since 2006, he is a professor at the Department of Informatics and Statistics (INE), of Santa Catarina Federal University (UFSC), in Florianópolis, Brazil. His research interests are databases, decision support systems, and the semantic Web, with focus in semantic annotation and analysis of complex data, spatio-temporal and semantic data warehousing, and workflows for data integration and information analysis. Nowadays, his main research projects include: The Oyá Framework for Semantic Annotation and Analysis of Web Data, Semantic Technologies for Mobility Data Analysis, and Semantic Solutions for e-Learning on Digital Libraries.
