Basics in Sustainable Development (WS)

Veranstaltung: Integrated Assessment of global Climate Protection Strategies (Vorlesung)

The module presents basics aspects of sustainability and their implications for global climate protection as well as for the corporate business and socio-urban context. At the same time methodologies form social sciences, from the model-based integrated assessment and from the corporate sustainability management will be provided.

Das Modul präsentiert eine Übersicht über die wichtigsten Energiequellen, Nachfrageprozesse, Konversions- und Speichertechnologien sowie Transportnetze. Zusammen mit energietechnischen Aspekten werden Kosten-  und Umweltaspekte erörtert. Es stellt darüber hinaus die wichtigsten Verfahren der Wirtschaftlichkeitsbewertung  energiebezogener Investitionsentscheidungen vor und erläutert die Funktionsweise der Termin-, Spot- und Regelenergiemärkte.

Sustainable Energy Economics (SS)

Participants will be able to understand the mode of operation of energy markets - especially of deregulated energy markets -. Moreover, the module presents different procedures to analyze national and international problems in the area of energy and climate policy. The students will learn how to develop simple optimization models on their own and choose suitable methods for solving the most important decision problems in these areas.

Modeling in Resources Management (WS)

Participants will be able to describe the main aspects of modeling energy systems and can code simple models for analyzing questions in energy economics.

The lecture is grounded in a series of topics that explore substantive ec onomical issues as well as political processes regarding the energy sector. In addition to readings from a wide variety of sources, the lecture will include guest appearances from nationally recognized policy makers, practitioners, and academics.

Business Administration in the Energy Sector II (WS)

Veranstaltung: Energy Management & Trading (Vorlesung)

Description of price formation mechanisms that can be observed in liberalized spot and balancing markets for power, gas and carbon dioxide certificates. Presentation of various (econometric and fundamental) energy markets models that are currently applied to project these prices. Discussion of approaches for portfolio optimization and trading related risk management. In addition, a trading course that will be offered together with the European Energy Exchange (EEX) will provide basic knowledge that is needed for trading at this exchange.
