Doctoral Program  

We welcome your decision to continue your academic career. We also appreciate that you are interested in writing your dissertation at our faculty or with the participation of one of our professors as an expert accompanying and evaluating your thesis.

Generally, you can write your dissertation in any of the subjects offered at our faculty. Please contact the professor or professors you believe will be most interested in your dissertation project, or ask for dissertation subjects you can work on at one of our institutes. If you have general questions about writing your dissertation at our faculty, please visit the Dean's Office first. Our staff answers questions about the administrative side of becoming a doctoral candidate, and helps you in find the institute and professors with whom you should ideally complete your project.

PromovierendenRat at the University of Leipzig

The PromovierendenRat (or ProRat) is a self-adminstrative organ which represents and supports the interests of all doctoral students at the University of Leipzig. The ProRat consists of 5 to 21 members, elected annually by all doctoral students. The members of the ProRat choose a speaker and a vice speaker.

The ProRat is mainly concerned with the following tasks:

  • representing and pursuing interests of doctoral students concerning educational policy,
  • giving advice and individual support in all phases of a dissertation,
  • distributing information and organizing workshops for doctoral students and 
  • networking with doctoral students from other disciplines and universities.

The PromovierendenRat also published the Promotionsleitfaden - a manual for doctoral students with lots of advices.

If you have identified one of our professors as a potential adviser for your disser­tation and evaluator of your work, you may apply to be included on the Faculty's dissertation list. In preparation for writing your dissertation at our faculty, please read the dissertation regulations and the documents for graduate students at the Faculty of Economics and Management Science.
