Project Overview - Fit for Digital Publishing (FiDiPub)

Digitization is transforming most information-based industries and in publishing classical books are increasingly supplemented with various electronic formats. In addition, the entire publishing process – from the search for manuscripts and production over the process of marketing to the distribution of media – is subject to change. What has become a reality in larger publishing houses, smaller publishers typically lack the necessary resources for establishing the required infrastructure. This refers to digital infrastructures as well as the knowledge on new media formats and publishing processes.

Here the project “Fit for Digital Publishing (FiDiPub)“ starts. The project was launched in August 2016 and aims at developing skills and concepts for successfully position small publishing companies (SPC) in the digital era. The project´s main interest is on the development of media competencies for different actors as well as the conception and prototypical implementation of cloud-based platforms. As a result, SPCs benefit from both (1) new ideas for establishing and using forms of digital customer interaction and (2) production and distribution of alternative media formats in digital channels. FiDiPub concentrates on the German county of Saxony and enterprises located in and around Leipzig.

Besides the chair of Application Systems in Business and Administration (Prof. Alt) and the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI), the interdisciplinary project consortium also comprises core partners from the Leipzig media service sector, namely the Leipzig School of Media and zwonull media. FiDiPub closely cooperates with the associated partner network of SPC and the Social CRM Research Center to develop applicable solutions with strong methodical and technological know-how. It also aims at reaching long-term qualifications in the area of digital publishing for all partners.
