Minitracks at the HICSS conference 2021

The Chair Application Systems in Business and Administration (IWI-AS) is involved in the organization of three minitracks at The Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS).

Social information systems, such as social networking platforms, online and content communities, collaborative project management tools and technologies and crowdsourcing websites, support the collaboration among individuals and organizations. The aim of this minitrack is to promote scientific exchange on social information systems, especially with regard to the economic, organizational and technological challenges.

Virtual personal assistants and chatbots, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home, are changing the way people interact with applications. They are already present in many areas of the digital economy and employ technologies such as natural language processing, predictive analysis, machine learning, speech recognition and generation. AI-based assistants unlock business value, for example, by automating processes, intensifying customer interaction, reducing errors and accelerating interactions. Contributions for this minitrack should address innovative approaches, methods, models, processes etc. for designing and understanding the use of such assistants.

The digital age encourages the provision of innovative services and solutions to end users and raises serious concerns, such as issues of online privacy, the management and explainability of information systems, manipulation by end users and even fake news, at the same time. The development of human-centered and user-enabling information systems can be an approach to "digital sustainability", i.e. the provision of novel and personalized services to end users, taking into account possible negative multidimensional consequences of digital transformation. The minitrack aims at promoting the understanding of human-centricity and the empowerment of end-users.
