Project Description

In cooperation with the chair for Business Education and Management Training of the University of Leipzig and renowned companies of the energy and water sector, the Bundesverbund der deutschen Gas- und Wasserwirtschaft (National Association of the German Gas and Water Works) offers the additional qualification "Management Assistant in the Energy and Water Industry". The curriculum was developed with the Central Committee "Personnel" of the Bundesverband der deutschen Gas- und Wasserwirtschaft. Research of the current and future qualification requirements on business people in more than 20 companies of the energy and water sector form the basis of the curriculum. The course takes place in Leipzig. The examination is held by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Leipzig.

The focus of the course is put on the national and international transformation processess in the energy and water industry and the adaption of the employee qualifications to new developments. The additional qualification "Management Assistant in the Energy and Water Industry" completes a vocational training (e.g. industrial clerk) with contents typical of that trade, is theoretically founded and related to practice. The course is intended for commercial apprentices in recognized skilled trades (especially industrial clerk) and qualified employees who passed their final examination in a commercial trade.

The curriculum consists of the following subjects:

Compulsory Subjects

Compulsory subjects are:

  • Legal and political framework of the energy and water industry
  • Markets within the energy and water industry
  • Technical fundamentals of the energy and water industry
  • Ecology
  • International Accounting Standards
Optional Subjects

The optional subjects consists of the following trade-specific themes:

  • Gas
  • Water / Waste Water
  • Electricity
  • District Heating
  • Renewable Energy
English

The course also aims to teach subject-specific English.

The course takes place yearly in two parts.

A changed legal and political framework, dealing on liberalized markets, unbundling, benchmarking, shared services and International Accounting Standards as well as customer advisory service are themes that are considered and discussed. The course enables the participants to support competently the transformation processes, that are proceeding in companies and affecting its stakeholders, and to contribute to the competitive success.
