Associated Institutions

The Faculty of Economics and Management Science cooperates with diverse scientific and economic institutions. We would like to briefly introduce some of the associated institutions that act as our closest partners.

Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ)

The Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research was founded in 1991. Currently, a total of about 900 employees work for the Helmholtz Center at its locations in Leipzig, Halle and Magdeburg. Research at the UFZ is focused on interactions between humans and the environment in landscapes subject to high levels of human interference. Particular emphasis is placed on densely populated urban and industrial regions and areas near wilderness. Sustainability issues comprise a major area of interest. UFZ scientists work to develop concepts and processes that will secure natural resources for future generations.

The cooperation between the Faculty of Economics and Management Science and the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research takes place primarily via the Economics/ Institutional Environmental Economics Chair. Members of the chair work on interdisciplinary and problem-oriented projects. Their research focuses on economic questions in the fields of climate change and climate adaptation, water prices in humid and arid regions, and problems of sustainability in clean energy production. A major focus of this cooperative effort is the institutional-economic analysis of market-oriented instruments of environmental policy.

With respect to third party funds, the chair supports projects on institutions with a sustainable water-infrastructure (BMBF) and water taxes (UBA).

Fraunhofer Center for Central and Eastern Europe (MOEZ)

The Fraunhofer Center for Central and Eastern Europe (MOEZ) is a strategic partner for agents working in industry, science and politics. The MOEZ helps strengthen their cooperation with key agents in the future markets in Central and Eastern Europe. Specializing in innovation and network management, internationalization and research marketing, the Fraunhofer Center develops workable solutions for central structural challenges in research and development.

The interdisciplinary research team at the Fraunhofer MOEZ joins academic qualification in economics, political science and social science with practical experience and expertise centered around the regions of Central and Eastern Europe.

The MOEZ has an extensive background in national and European promotion programs, and continually analyzes markets and innovation system of the dynamically developing economic regions in Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to project development and consulting companies and political institutions, the MOEZ reinforces and expands scientific discussions in the realms of innovation transfer and cooperation, small- and medium-sized enterprises and cluster research.

In cooperation with an extensive network of renowned agents in industry, science and politics, the Fraunhofer Center helps partners in research and development to place their innovations in Central and Eastern European markets and thus to utilize newly emerging impulses for development and research in Germany.
