Doctoral Studies

Central-German Doctoral Program Economics

The Central-German Doctoral Program Economics (CGDE) provides a regional doctoral program in Economics. The central aim of CGDE is to provide an excellent doctoral education by offering research-oriented courses which are held by internationally renowned researchers. This network is a joint initiative of the following economics faculties and research institutes in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia:

The course program consists of three sections: Core Courses, Special Courses, and Workshops. The Core Courses comprise courses covering the frontiers in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics. Every course is organized as a compact course extending over three or four days, and every day has six teaching hours of 45 minutes. Within the Special  Courses internationally renowned researchers provide an overview of their respective fields of research. The annual Workshops provide doctoral students the opportunity to present their research projects, obtain feedback from experienced researchers, and exchange ideas with other doctoral students.

Doctoral Seminar in Economics

The Doctoral Seminar in Economics (Volkswirtschaftliches Doktorandenseminar) provides a forum in which doctoral students discuss their research projects with each other and with their professors. Doctoral students have the opportunity to present work in progress in order to receive feedback at an early stage of the research process. Occassionally, external doctoral students are invited to present their research projects at the economics group.

The seminars usually take place on Wednesdays from 1 to 2 pm at Serminarraum 10 at the Institutsgebäude of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science (Grimmaische Straße 12). Amendments are going to be announced. In case of requests please contact Prof. Dr. Bernd Süssmuth (suessmuth@wifa.uni-leipzig.de).
