The Student Council for Economics and Management Science at the University of Leipzig is a student committee that represents the interests of all students at our faculty. Members of the council stem from various programs and semesters and are elected by the students at our faculty on an annual basis. Additionally, many students work as freelance members of the Student Council.
The Student Council offers students help and advice, represents student interests in various university committees, and is an important agent in networking and exchange between students and staff within the faculty.
Orientation for First-Year Students
One important function of the Student Council is to organize the Orientation for all new students at our faculty each year. At the start of each winter semester, senior students help first-years during their first week at our university. The Dean of our faculty welcomes new students, while the Student Council offers intensive course guidance and counseling, assists in the enrollment process, and organizes a tour of Leipzig, a barbecue, and a semester kickoff party. The Student Council also puts together a small manual designed to make starting at the University of Leipzig easier.
Members of the Student Council work as student representatives on many university committees: for example, the StudentInnenRat and the Faculty Council, as well as its Study and Examination Commissions.
Student Council activities also include holding regular office hours to provide students with advice and assistance, keeping students informed via the homepage and newsletters, and organizing tutorials, events at the Dies Academicus, and the annual graduation ball for all faculty graduates, their friends and families.
